Abstract

Abstract Background With the expansion of the “hospital-wide bed-sharing (HWBS)” model, clinical nurses face multiple challenges in cross-departmental collaboration scenarios, particularly in adapting to their evolving roles. Investigating the current state of readiness for interprofessional learning (RIPL) and its influencing factors is a critical starting point for optimising collaboration processes and ensuring patient safety. This study aimed to determine the RIPL of clinical nurses in a HWBS model and the associated influencing factors. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted using convenience sampling among 718 clinical nurses at a single tertiary hospital in Jiangsu Province, China, from June to August 2025. A self-developed demographic questionnaire and validated scales, including the readiness for interprofessional learning scale, a psychological capital scale for nurses, and a perceived organisational support scale, were administered. Results The mean RIPL score was 80.26 ± 11.49. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that experience with mentoring interns ( β = 0.096, P < 0.001), psychological capital (PsyCap; β = 0.348, P < 0.001), and perceived organisational support (POS; β = 0.499, P < 0.001) collectively explained 66.3% of the total variance. Conclusion Clinical nurses demonstrated relatively high levels of RIPL. Experience with mentoring interns, PsyCap, and POS were positively associated with RIPL. These findings suggest that future efforts should focus on strengthening organisational support, optimising teaching mechanisms, and enhancing nurses’ PsyCap to explore effective pathways for improving interprofessional collaboration capacity.
