Gravity Enhancement in a Relativistic Collision

Open access0 citations

Abstract

This article describes the special case of gravitational enhancement during the head-on approach of two equal masses on a collision course. Within the first post-Minkowskian approximation, the result is valid for arbitrary velocities and shows that, in the ultrarelativistic limit, the gravitational interaction is enhanced by approximately 8γ² relative to the Newtonian value.
