E₈ Lattice Projection to Icosahedral Quasicrystals via Golden-Ratio Fibonacci Multigrids — E8 Intelligence Research

Open access0 citations

Abstract

FINDING: The E₈ root system (240 vertices) projects onto icosahedral quasicrystalline structures via golden-ratio-modified multigrids, with the Fibonacci chain as the spacing mechanism. | MATH: E₈ has 240 minimal vectors, 6720 edges (Gosset 4₂₁ polytope). The icosagrid uses 10 plane sets with icosahedral symmetry; Fibonacci-chain spacing (F(n+1)/F(n) → φ = 1.618…) generates a quasicrystal. The golden ratio φ appears as the fundamental scaling factor linking E₈'s 8D lattice to 3D icosahedral projections. | CONNECTION: Direct — φ (1.618) and its inverse φ⁻¹ (0.618) are the structural constants. Icosahedral symmetry (order 120, including 5-fold rotations) is a crystallographically forbidden symmetry in periodic 3D lattices but emerges naturally from E₈ projection. The icosagrid's 10 plane sets correspond to the 10 3-fold axes of the icosahedron, and the Fibonacci chain enforces the golden-mean spacing — a direct bridge from 8D root system to 3D quasicrystal. | DEPTH: 8/10 — This is not sp Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
