Golden Rectangles Seed Icosahedron and Icosidodecahedron Symmetry — E8 Intelligence Research
Abstract
FINDING: Three mutually perpendicular golden rectangles define the 20 vertices of an icosahedron; this construction is the geometric seed of the icosidodecahedron's golden rhombi and the compound-of-two-icosahedra symmetry. | MATH: Golden ratio φ = (1+√5)/2 ≈ 1.618; reciprocal φ⁻¹ = φ−1 ≈ 0.618; φ² = φ+1 ≈ 2.618. Icosahedron vertices from three golden rectangles (aspect ratio 1:φ) centered at origin, each rectangle in a mutually orthogonal plane (x–y, y–z, z–x). Edge length of resulting icosahedron = 2/φ = 2(φ−1) ≈ 1.236. The icosidodecahedron's 30 edges are the pairwise sums of the icosahedron's 12 vertices; its 12 pentagonal faces and 20 triangular faces arise from the fivefold axes (C₅) of the icosahedral group (order 120, isomorphic to A₅×C₂). Golden rhombi (face angles arctan(2) ≈ 63.435° and 116.565°) tile the rhombic triacontahedron, which is the dual of the icosidodecahedron; the ratio of long to short diagonal of each golden rhombus is φ. | CONNECTION: Directly encodes φ (0.61 Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
