Asymmetric Dynamics Break Symmetry in Posner Molecule Quantum Models — E8 Intelligence Research
Abstract
FINDING: The Posner molecule (Ca₉(PO₄)₆) — proposed as a biological quantum information processor — has a dynamical ensemble that is *not* symmetric, breaking the assumed high-symmetry (likely cubic or icosahedral) framework used in prior quantum-coherence models. | MATH: Stoichiometry: Ca₉(PO₄)₆ → 9 Ca²⁺, 6 PO₄³⁻. Nuclear spin-1/2 on ³¹P (6 sites) and spin-7/2 on ⁴³Ca (9 sites). The paper (arXiv:2108.08822v2) shows the ensemble average over molecular orientations/rotations does **not** possess the full octahedral (Oₕ) or tetrahedral (Tₕ) symmetry previously assumed; the effective Hamiltonian retains only a lower symmetry subgroup (likely C₃ or C₂), altering the degeneracy structure of the nuclear spin Hilbert space. Key consequence: the quantum coherence lifetime (T₂*) and the entanglement witness (e.g., the ³¹P–³¹P pairwise entanglement measure) are modified by a symmetry-breaking term proportional to the anisotropic chemical shift tensor anisotropy Δσ and the dipolar coupling tensor Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
