Measurement distance effects on linear Taylor distributions for asymmetric radiation patterns with deep and filled nulls

Open access0 citations

Abstract

Abstract This study investigated measurement distance effects on asymmetric linear Taylor radiation patterns, including configurations with deep and filled nulls. An extension of the Elliott–Stern method was used to compute the complex roots required for independent side lobe and null control. The variation of illumination efficiency and radiation pattern error with measurement distance was analyzed and compared with those of symmetric Taylor distributions. The results showed that asymmetric side lobe depression provides higher illumination efficiency than symmetric counterparts while requiring comparable distances to achieve far-field behavior. The impact of null filling was also examined, demonstrating the existence of multiple admissible solutions that enable controlled trade-offs between illumination efficiency, dynamic range ratio, and far-field convergence distance.
