Triaxial Polymer Ejection System

Open access0 citations

Abstract

Abstract A theoretical paper proposing a polymer ejection system designed to deploy high-tensile structural strands capable of retrieving items and objects. Inspired by the 2024 Tufts University Boston SilkLab experiment, this paper utilizes advanced biomimetic chemistry and mechanics to design a functional, real-world "Spider-Man web shooter." Key Technical Specifications: The Polymer: An 11% (w/w) concentrated fluid solution combining silk fibroin, chitosan, tannic acid, and a borate buffer dissolved in water. Triaxial Nozzle: A specialized nested three-channel nozzle (20-gauge inner for the polymer fluid, 16-gauge middle for a 100% pure acetone solidifying solvent, and 12-gauge outer for compressed CO2 gas). Pressure Chamber/Booster: Employs an automated carbon fiber and titanium pressure chamber utilizing compressed CO2 gas with a peak threshold of ~100 PSI to leverage the Venturi effect for maximum range and strand alignment. Purpose This document is published as an open-source engineering specification by Satronic Labs / Satronic Group under the CERN Open Hardware License (Strongly Reciprocal) to encourage community experimentation, and collaborative engineering modifications.
