The Relationship Between Functional Movement and Physical Health-Related Quality of Life in Active Adults
Abstract
Purpose: To examine the relationship between functional movement capacity, cardiovascular capacity, and body composition, and how they relate to health-related quality of life. Methods: This was a cross-sectional observational study. In total, 123 adults completed the RAND Short Form-36 Health Survey, body composition, a 1.5-mile run, and four functional movement assessments. Results: Participants classified as functional or advanced function demonstrated significantly higher physical HRQoL than those classified as developing function or limited function across all movement patterns. Discussion: Functional movement capacity is an important indicator of perceived physical health and may provide a practical assessment tool for identifying individuals who may benefit from targeted exercise interventions.
