de.KCD: Competence Center Cloud-Technologies for Data Management and Processing
Abstract
de.KCD addresses challenges of digital transformation by bundling expertise in a cross-location and cross-domain contact point for cloud computing and data management, building upon the network, hardware capacities and services of the de.NBI Cloud. A key focus of de.KCD is the dissemination of dedicated knowledge across the board, inter alia, by reducing access barriers to technologies and methods, the development of a structured training program with new training offerings, the definition and use of processes and technologies for open and sustainable training materials, teaching relevant skills in various formats and self-learning units, the implementation of best practice examples, support in the development of software stacks and workflows, and the development and provision of virtual learning and working environments for researchers at all career levels. In particular, de.KCD develops and maintains the modular, and self-hosted open educational resource platform ROSPER, offering self-service access to open licensed reusable training modules. Beyond these, de.KCD also aims to promote knowledge exchange between research locations by fostering close collaborations with NFDI consortia, other data competence centers, and initiatives such as ELIXIR and EOSC, thus ensuring that solutions are interoperable, sustainable, and aligned with current scientific and technical standards.
