Examining the Impact of Corporate Information Communication Technology Resources on the Corporate Social Responsibility Performance of Tokyo‐Listed Firms
Abstract
ABSTRACT Corporate Information Communication Technology (ICT) assets play a vital role in improving corporate social responsibility (CSR) outcomes. They help with data management, increase transparency, and support effective communication with stakeholders. These abilities allow companies to better monitor, record, and implement socially and environmentally responsible actions. This research, based on the Resource‐Based View, investigates how corporate ICT assets influence CSR performance. It also examines whether firm size and innovation orientation influence this relationship. The study employed specific inclusion and exclusion criteria and utilized a purposive sampling method to select suitable firms. Data were collected from 483 non‐financial corporations of Tokyo‐listed firms between 2008 and 2024. Researchers gathered this information from the Bloomberg database. To confirm the reliability and strength of the findings, advanced second‐generation estimation methods were used. These included the Augmented Mean Group (AMG), the Common Correlated Effects Mean Group (CCEMG), and the two‐step Generalized Method of Moments (GMM). The findings indicate that investments in ICT, the intensity of ICT use, and ICT‐related research and development, as indicators of corporate ICT resources, have a positive impact on CSR performance. Additionally, interactions between ICT investment, firm size, and innovation orientation had significant positive effects on CSR outcomes. This highlights the need for corporate leaders to focus on building ICT infrastructure as part of their CSR and sustainability strategies, especially regarding CSR reporting and stakeholder engagement. The study also emphasizes the importance of policymakers in promoting digital transformation to enhance responsible corporate governance.
