Torah Epistemology
Abstract
Torah epistemology refers to the theory of knowledge that emerges from the Hebrew Bible, Rabbinic Judaism, and subsequent Jewish intellectual traditions. Unlike many Western epistemological systems that emphasize abstract rationality, empirical observation, or skepticism as primary sources of knowledge, Torah epistemology integrates revelation, reason, experience, ethical practice, and communal memory into a unified framework for understanding truth. The Hebrew Bible presents knowledge not merely as the accumulation of information but as a relationship between human beings, the world, and God. Knowledge is therefore simultaneously intellectual, moral, and existential. Within Jewish tradition, the pursuit of knowledge is closely linked to responsibility, covenant, and action.
