The Strange Case of Possibilities Is Recursion: How Path Availability Generates Physical Reality and Why Everything That Navigates Is an Algorithm
Abstract
Possibilities occupy a stratum of reality that science has systematically neglected. They are the only genuinely recursive structure in the universe — the only entities that are self-referentially self-grounding, requiring no external cause, no medium, no substrate to persist. This paper argues that this uniqueness has a consequence: because possibilities cannot be annihilated (any attempt to eliminate them presupposes the possibility of elimination), they must be the cause of all reality. Everything else — logic, stable relationships, matter, physical law — is freedom that has progressively crystallised through a four-stage densification process formalised as the FLRP stack: Freedom generates Logic through differentiation; Logic generates Relationships through collision; Relationships generate the Physical through long-duration stability. Matter is long-term freedom. Physics is metaphysical. The paper then asks what follows from this practically: if everything navigates, everything is algorithmic, and any system can be understood and redesigned by mapping its Distortion geometry. We develop the master equation Freedom = (Perception / Distortion)^Alpha-infinity in full, present a taxonomy of Perception across six levels, develop thirty counterfactual comparisons establishing the ontological uniqueness of possibilities, state twenty falsifiable predictions, and provide a complete positive-definition glossary. The Lambert Wall — Alpha-infinity = e^(1/e) ≈ 1.4447 — is the maximum scale of topological friction beyond which real navigation ceases and physical form is born. Author ORCID: 0009-0008-6255-7724.
