Abstract

Abstract The U400 cyclotron reconstruction project is currently underway at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. Modification of the design of the axial injection channel and the vacuum chamber is planned. It is necessary to simulate the accelerator vacuum system. In this work, the pressure distribution of the residual gas in the axial injection channel and the vacuum chamber of the U400R cyclotron (reconstruction project U400) has been simulated using Comsol Multiphysics software. The influence of additional elements on the final result is estimated. The transmission efficiency of an ion in the presence of residual gas has also been evaluated. Different models have been used to determine the charge-exchange cross sections. It has been shown that the required residual gas pressure is sufficient to minimize the loss of accelerated ions.
