Four‐Channel Vectorial Metasurface Holography with Statistically Matched Patterns for Deceptive Optical Communication

Abstract

ABSTRACT Metasurface holography has emerged as a powerful platform for high‐capacity optical encoding; however, conventional optical encryption typically hides information in stochastic noise, revealing the message only under specific polarization states. Here, we propose a deceptive optical communication framework based on a four‐channel vectorial holographic metasurface. Using four non‐orthogonal elliptical polarization states, the Jones matrix distribution is jointly optimized via a matrix‐form Gerchberg–Saxton algorithm. Full‐wave simulations demonstrated a relative target‐region energy fraction of up to 51%, while the corresponding target‐region fractions under orthogonal‐complement inputs were reduced to approximately 6%. Measurements of a fabricated 512 × 512 device validate polarization‐dependent Fourier‐hologram reconstruction. In the numerical communication demonstration, one polarization reconstructs a plausible decoy quick‐response (QR) code, while the other three reconstruct QR codes carrying random optical key shares. The four numerically optimized QR targets exhibit statistically comparable module‐level features (edge density 0.3078–0.3198; binary module entropy 0.89–0.91). The authentic payload requires QR error correction, three‐share reconstruction, and authentication using an independent cyber credential. This work integrates non‐orthogonal polarization holography with structured deception and independent cyber authentication, thereby establishing a hierarchical framework for deceptive optical communication.
