Soviet Technical Literature in the Gas Industry of the Azerbaijan SSR

Abstract

This publication presents a brief overview of a collection of Soviet technical literature from the personal archive of Abutalib Mir Aga oglu Abdullaev, the first head of the unified gas infrastructure of the Azerbaijan SSR (Glavgaz of the AzSSR). The collection includes an offprint of the research article by M. E. Miroshnikov, “Comparative Cost of Stove and Central Water Heating in Residential Buildings Using Gas Fuel” (Novosibirsk, 1959), featuring a presentation inscription by the author to Abdullaev; a departmental poster, “Group Installation for Liquefied Gas,” by the ORGGAZ Trust of the Ministry of Communal Economy of the RSFSR (Moscow, 1959); a set of six technical booklets from the Ukrainian State Design Institute “Ukrgiprogorpromgaz” (Kyiv, 1963); and issues of the industry journal Gazovaya Promyshlennost (1967, 1970), including a special issue dedicated to the 11th International Gas Congress. Spanning the period from 1959 to 1970, these materials originate from various regions of the USSR, specifically the RSFSR (Novosibirsk, Moscow) and the Ukrainian SSR (Kyiv). The work demonstrates that the activities of Glavgaz were not limited to studying foreign experience: Soviet technical literature was systematically utilized as an engineering and organizational foundation for the development of the gas sector in the Azerbaijan SSR—ranging from the selection of residential heating schemes to practical tools for operational engineers. This work continues the author’s series of publications on the personal archive of Abdullaev, dedicated to the integration of international and all-Union technical experience into the development of the gas industry in the Azerbaijan SSR, with specific reference to previous studies on the materials of the 10th International Gas Congress in Hamburg (1967) and the collection of foreign technical publications from the same archive.
