6G in the UK: From Research Ambition to a Secure, AI-Native Network
Abstract
From Research Ambition to a Secure, AI-Native Network is an independent industry-analysis article examining the emerging development of sixth-generation mobile communications in the United Kingdom. The article explores the transition from 5G Standalone towards future 6G networks, including AI-native network operations, advanced spectrum use, cloud-native architectures, non-terrestrial networks, network automation, security, resilience and the evolution of transport and core infrastructure. It also considers the UK’s research, policy and standards environment and the technical challenges involved in moving from research ambition to commercially deployable next-generation connectivity. Particular attention is given to the engineering implications of 6G for carrier-grade IP networks, network assurance, automation, service continuity and secure digital infrastructure. The article is intended for telecommunications professionals, researchers, policy stakeholders and practitioners interested in the future evolution of UK mobile and digital infrastructure.
