Research with sensitive and Indigenous data
Abstract
This Guide outlines best practice for the publication and sharing of sensitive research data in the Australian context. For the purposes of this Guide, sensitive data are data that can be used to identify an individual, species, object, process, or location that introduces a risk of discrimination, harm, or unwanted attention. It addresses sensitive data in health, Indigenous Data and ecological species. More specific definitions are provided for each type of sensitive data throughout. The Guide follows the sequence of steps that are necessary for publishing and sharing sensitive data, as outlined in the 3 accompanying flowcharts, for human data including additional considerations for Indigenous data, and restricted access species data. It provides the detail and context to the steps in these flowcharts. References for further information are provided for those that are interested.
