The Golden Ratio and Quantum Dissipation: A Search for Missing Links — E8 Intelligence Research

Open access0 citations

Abstract

FINDING: The search returns mostly popular expositions of the golden ratio (φ) and one substantive physics paper (Feynman-Vernon moving thermal environment) — but no direct evidence linking φ to the influence functional or renormalization group. The mathematical essence is therefore: φ is self-similar under affine scaling; the Feynman-Vernon paper is about dissipative quantum dynamics, not φ. MATH: - Golden ratio: φ = (1+√5)/2 = 1.6180339887…; reciprocal φ⁻¹ = 0.6180339887…; φ² = 2.6180339887…; φ⁻² = 0.3819660113… (≈0.382). - Self-similarity: φ satisfies φ = 1 + 1/φ, and φ² = φ + 1. - Pentagon diagonal: d/s = φ (diagonal/side). - Feynman-Vernon influence functional: \( \mathcal{F}[x,x'] = \exp\left[-\frac{1}{\hbar}\int dt \int dt' (x(t)-x'(t)) K(t-t') (x(t')-x'(t'))\right] \), with kernel \( K(t) \) derived from spectral density \( J(\omega) \) of the bath. For a moving thermal environment, the kernel is Doppler-shifted and temperature-dependent, but no φ appears in the abstra Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
