The WTF-Zone in the Seminar Room

Open access2 citations

Abstract

A didactic sketch about a student who genuinely understands the core concepts of her course — intuitively, in her own language — but lacks the formal vocabulary for them. She explains usability, the Tichy zone model, and the WTF Zone in her own words: accurate in substance, entirely outside academic convention. The sketch illustrates the difference between panic zone and cognitive disconnection — and shows that missing formal language is not a failure of the learner, but a failure of design.
