Hotel Inbox Brazil: Business Model Strategy in Roadside Hospitality
Abstract
Summary The hospitality industry has undergone significant digital transformation, driven by changing guest expectations, mobile technology adoption, and increasing competition among accommodation providers. In Brazil, where messaging applications such as WhatsApp are deeply embedded in everyday communication, hotels face mounting pressure to deliver fast, personalized, and consistent responses to guest inquiries. Hotel Inbox Brazil (hereafter Hotel Inbox) emerged as a technology-driven solution designed to address these challenges by centralizing and professionalizing guest communication across multiple digital channels. This case examines how Hotel Inbox positions itself within Brazil’s roadside hospitality sector through its technology ecosystem, evaluates its value proposition and business model, and explores the strategic challenges it faces as it seeks to scale in a competitive and rapidly evolving market. The case invites students to analyze digital transformation, service innovation, and competitive strategy in an emerging economy context. At the center of the case is a hybrid business model: the software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform is the digital service layer that manages guest communication and supports operational efficiency, while the capsule-hotel concept is the physical service layer through which Hotel Inbox delivers roadside accommodation. The two components reinforce one another by combining digital convenience with strategically located, standardized, low-staff lodging. Information © The Authors 2026
