Abstract

Abstract The projected increase in the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the coming years as necessitated the need for available and accessible charging networks. Dynamic Wireless Charging (DWC) is introduced as one of the emerging techniques that can be implemented to reduce the challenges associated with seamless EV charging. The use of DWC can potentially boost the implementation of EVs and subsequently contribute to sustainable mobility. As such over the years, there has been increased interest in the application of DWC technology as a sustainable approach for EV charging systems. DWC employs inductive power transfer that charge the battery while the vehicle is moving. Therefore, this article aims to examine the application of DWC for the deployment of electric road systems for charging EV in the motorways while reducing the waiting times in electric motorway (e-motorways). A structural literature review was adopted examining 62 sources. Findings from this study provides evidence on how countries can plan and implement Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) to accelerate the development of e-motorways. Moreover, this study contributes to existing literature to identify critical factors that influences the effective deployment of DWPT for charging EV on e-motorway for electric road systems. Evidence from this study has important implications for countries considering the electrification and implementation of e-motorways via DWPT.
