Validation of the MODEL UR and socio-motivated resilience for disaster risk governance in the Monterrey metropolitan area
Abstract
To investigate the relationship between urban resilience and disaster risk governance in the Monterrey Metropolitan Area (MMA), Mexico, a theoretical model was developed and validated. The study examined how governance processes, social cohesion, and institutional capabilities support resilience to risks and long-term stress. Structural Equation Modeling, a quantitative method, was used to analyze data collected from 370 individuals via a stratified sampling technique. The findings support the validity of MODEL_UR and show a strong correlation between disaster risk governance and urban resilience across the MMA municipalities. The work makes a theoretical contribution by introducing the concept of socio-motivated resilience, which integrates social norms, risk perception, and adaptive capacities to explain resilience processes in urban settings.
