Abstract
A comparison of four ways to control equipment and USB devices from a Windows application: virtual COM port, HID, WinUSB, and vendor SDKs. We cover whether a driver has to be installed, identifying devices when several are connected, following hot-plug events, and the ceiling on throughput — all from a working engineer's perspective.
