Synaptic Clock Model: Sole Quantitative Advance in Consciousness Research — E8 Intelligence Research

Open access0 citations

Abstract

FINDING: Neural correlates of consciousness (NCC) research remains largely descriptive; the sole quantitative theoretical advance is a "synaptic clock" model positing discrete temporal quanta for conscious moments. | MATH: No explicit equations in the NCC talks; the arXiv paper (2002.07716v2) implies a minimum conscious duration τ_min > 0, with a proposed temporal discretization Δt ≈ synaptic integration time (~10–100 ms). No constants, ratios, or symmetries are derived. | CONNECTION: None found. No ratios (0.382, 0.618, 0.786, 1.618, 2.618), no base-60, no crystallographic or root-system structure. The "synaptic clock" is a linear temporal grid, not a harmonic or geometric one. | DEPTH: 2/10 — The findings are conference talks and a speculative preprint; no falsifiable mathematical law, no invariant, no symmetry group. The only quantitative claim (temporal quantization) is a hypothesis without derived constants or predictive equations. Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
