DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LAWS IN INDIA

Abstract

According to estimates released by the World Health Organisation in 2023, almost one in three (31.6%) women worldwide (840 million women and girls) have experienced non-partner sexual violence or physical and/or sexual intimate relationship abuse at some point in their lives. According to a historic report released by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UN partners, violence against women is still one of the most persistent and under-addressed human rights concerns in the world, with very little progress in 20 years. Here in this chapter, the meaning of domestic violence, its scope and dimensions. It contends that it is important to digest the circumstances surrounding the creation of the laws before making any remarks about their abuse. The fact that half a billion women in India are impacted by violence or the prospect of violence in their homes makes the problem extremely severe, and it cannot be disproved by the misconceptions surrounding legal abuse.
