The Quiescent Crunch
Abstract
A companion to The Breath Cannot Close, which established that the contracting branch of the Euler Cosmos loses its homogeneous (breath) description some sixty-nine e-folds and ninety orders of magnitude in density before any bounce, at white-dwarf densities, with no quantum gravity involved. This note continues the description below that wall. With a stiff / kinetic phase present, the final collapse is describable to the past-directed limit as quiescent anisotropic Kasner --- monotone rather than chaotic (mixmaster) --- down toward the Planck wall. The continuation is a conditional structural extension: it rests on established quiescence theorems (Belinskii-Khalatnikov; Barrow; Andersson-Rendall; Rodnianski-Speck) and on two contingencies --- dark energy read as a substance, and a stiff component dominating shear near the crunch. It carries no observational test and does not modify the breath, whose falsifiable prediction lives at redshift z < 4. The paper draws a load-bearing distinction between quiescence (removal of the time-oscillations) and smoothness (removal of spatial inhomogeneity): the crunch is quiescent but inhomogeneous, creation quiescent and homogeneous. Because both ends are then non-oscillatory, the dynamical asymmetry is removed and the thermodynamic arrow of time is isolated as the Weyl / entropy difference alone, strengthening rather than costing the series' arrow result. The reach asymmetry of The Low-Entropy Dawn is preserved; what was a describability gap at the crunch is refilled and relabelled a character asymmetry --- homogeneous Kasner at creation versus inhomogeneous Kasner at the crunch. The parent Euler Universe cosmology remains falsified and is not revived.
