Hydro-Priming as a Sustainable Approach for Improving Germination and Yield in Soybean

Open access0 citations

Abstract

Abstract One of the most significant oilseed and protein-rich crops grown globally is the soybean (Glycine max L.). However, crop establishment and yield are frequently restricted by poor and uneven seed germination under unfavorable environmental circumstances. By starting regulated metabolic processes without permitting radicle emergence, seed priming has become a successful pre-sowing method to improve seed performance. The current study assesses how well various seed priming techniques improve soybean yield parameters, plant development and germination percentage. When compared to untreated seeds, primed seeds typically show superior nutrient mobilization, increased enzymatic activity, faster and more synchronized germination, and greater resistance to abiotic stressors. Higher seed production, improved crop establishment, and enhanced biomass accumulation are all facilitated by these physiological advancements. The study emphasizes seed priming as a feasible, affordable, and eco-friendly method for boosting soybean productivity and guaranteeing sustainable crop production under a range of agroclimatic circumstances. For academics, extension agents, and farmers looking to improve soybean farming through straightforward seed modification methods, the results offer insightful information.
