A Study of CSR Management Practices for Social Development with Special Reference to Pune District in Financial Year 2020-21

Abstract

Abstract The Companies Act, 2013, enacted by the Government of India, includes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as an important provision. According to this Act, eligible companies are required to spend a certain portion of their profits on various social development activities. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become a significant means for industrial organizations to contribute to social development. Pune district is known as one of the most developed districts in Western Maharashtra. The district has experienced substantial industrial growth, resulting in the concentration of industries in this region. Along with industrialization, there has been a concentration of population in Pune district, which has consequently created pressure on various infrastructural resources. The present study analyses the CSR management practices of industries in Pune district during the period in financial year 2020-21, focusing on their impact on social development. The main objective of the research is to examine how CSR funds are allocated, how they are implemented, how monitoring is carried out, and what impact these initiatives have on social development. The study is based on secondary data collected from company reports, CSR reports, and government documents. Special emphasis has been placed on fund allocation and its impact in key sectors such as education, healthcare, environment, rural development, and skill development. The findings of the study indicate that CSR funds are largely spent on education and healthcare sectors. However, certain challenges remain in project implementation, transparency, and impact assessment. Proper planning, need-based allocation of funds, regular monitoring, and active stakeholder participation can make these initiatives more effective. This study provides guidance for improving CSR management practices in Pune district and for enhancing the effectiveness of industrial contributions toward sustainable social development.
