Local Economy in the context of religious tourism: An Economic Review of the Pandharpur Wari

Abstract

Abstract Pandharpur in Mharashtrathe journey from pilgrims’ residence to Pandharpur back is popularly known as Wari.In the recent years youth are also actively participating in Pandharpur wari and the local market in pandharpur is trying to fulfill their needs. Wari is directly associated with people residing in and around the pandharpur. wari gave boost to the town’s economy, it leads to increase employment opportunities and increases people’s income. This literature integrates government data, scholarly articles and NGO repors to analyze the economic impact of Wari. The present study explores the how pilgrimage generates the seasonal employment to local service providers. This review also identifies key gaps in literature and encourages further investigation to enhance quantitative understanding pilgrimage related economic activity.
