AIDS 2026 in Rio: science is here, access is not

Abstract

The city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosted the 26th International AIDS Conference from July 26 to 31, marking the first time the conference was held in a Latin American country. About 7500 people from around the world attended the conference, both in person and virtually, to advance HIV science, prevention, programme implementation, and human rights globally; strengthen collaboration, particularly between the Americas and international HIV networks; and highlight the severe funding crisis resulting from cuts to HIV programmes, which are affecting millions of people.
