Application of geochemical control methods to confirm the performed geotechnical surveys effectiveness
Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the possibility of introducing geochemical methods to the deposits of the Northern Caspian Sea to confirm the effectiveness of geological and technical measures (GTM). Offshore de-posits are considered, characterized by a complex geological structure and conditions of occurrence of hydrocarbons. During the operation of such fields, a decrease in production inevitably occurs, which requires GTM aimed at intensifying oil inflows by introducing oil-saturated or limiting water- and gas-saturated intervals determined by the results of mining and geophysical surveys (MGS) of the inflow profile. However, a simple increase in the flow rate after GTM is not always an exhaustive proof of the success of the event. When monitoring the development of oil and gas fields, it is necessary to understand which inputs led to an increase in production, whether there was a breakthrough of non-target fluids (for example, water or gas from other horizons) and how the reservoir filtration system has changed. In offshore fields, an urgent problem is the confirmation of GTM results by conducting a MGS. The effectiveness of the measures carried out or the quality of the equipment used can be assessed using geo-chemical control methods. The main problem of using MGS to solve such tasks is related to the high workload of offshore platforms by drilling new wells and side shafts, ongoing and major well repairs, and other work. In addition, geochemical control methods to confirm the effectiveness of the conducted GTMs can have a potentially high economic effect, taking into account the reduction of costs for conducting a MGS.
