Antioxidant, Anti‐Quorum Sensing and Enzyme Inhibitory Activities of Dryopteris raddeana and Molecular Docking Studies
Abstract
ABSTRACT Dryopteris species grow widely in many countries and exhibit a wide range of bioactive properties. Studies on one of these species, Dryopteris raddeana , are quite limited. In this context, it was aimed to evaluate the antioxidant, antidiabetic, antiobesity, and anti‐quorum sensing properties and chemical content of D. raddeana . Antidiabetic and antiobesity effects of the extract were evaluated by enzyme inhibition test methods, while its anti‐quorum sensing activity was evaluated by biofilm formation and swarming motility tests. Docking study was undertaken to rationalize the enzymatic assay study results and look in to possible mechanism of binding to the enzymes. The extract had significantly reduced biofilm development and swarming motility. Furthermore, the MIC concentrations of the extract ranged from 0.781 to 3.125 mg/mL. This extract demonstrated strong DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity (81.06 ± 0.24% and 87.59 ± 0.41%, respectively). The IC 50 values of the extract on α‐amylase and α‐glucosidase were 28.48 ± 1.76 and 41.07 ± 1.73 µg/mL, respectively. The most abundant amounts of quinic acid (10866.5 µg/g) and astragalin (5989.7 µg/g) were found in the extract. Molecular docking study disclosed that the major phytocomponents had binding potential to α‐amylase and α‐glucosidase structures.
