FHAT Technical Note #014: Post-Earnings Multi-MA Ceiling Rejection and a Tiered Pivot Hypothesis in SOXL: An Ex-Ante Forecast via the 251119 Analog

Abstract

Executive Abstract Following NVIDIA’s (NVDA) 2026-08-26 earnings report, the Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X Shares (SOXL) rallied sharply in extended-hours trading. This Technical Note registers a dated, strictly falsifiable, two-leg ex-ante forecast prior to the August 27, 2026 cash open: Leg 1 (Resistance-Confluence Rejection): During the 2026-08-27 regular session, price expands into the 4-Hour MA60–MA120/MA200 resistance-confluence ceiling ($126.464 – $131.824), experiences kinetic exhaustion and rejection within the session, and holds the session low as a short-term pivot. Leg 2 (Catalyst-Conditioned Tiered Deep Pivot): Following overhead kinetic exhaustion, price rotates into a deeper structural pivot at or below Daily MA200 ($106.338), structured as three conditional tiers: Tier 1 (Baseline Mean Reversion): Test of Daily MA200 (≤ $106.338), independent of macro catalysts. Tier 2 (Conditional Liquidity Sweep): Test of the 2026-07 swing low (≤ $102.090), contingent on market reaction to Kevin Warsh’s 2026-08-28 Jackson Hole keynote (the "260729" analog). Tier 3 (Extended Tail Extension): Sweep of the $100.00 round number down to the $96.48 projection marker. Key Methodological & Epistemological Contributions Ex-Ante Structural Preregistration: Documents that the primary November 2025 ("251119") isomorphic analog was mathematically identified and archived during the regular trading session of 2026-08-26 (between 12:53 ET and 13:12 ET), several hours prior to the market close and well before that evening's NVDA earnings release. Multi-Horizon Moving-Average Topography: Formalizes the spatial resistance walls on 4-hour and daily horizons, establishing why unabsorbed momentum into descending moving averages triggers mean-reverting rejections. Non-Overlapping Falsification Architecture: Pre-specifies complete four-path state trees (Path A through Path D) and quantitative invalidation thresholds for each individual leg and tier, eliminating narrative ambiguity and hindsight bias.
