Integrating Traditional Knowledge Systems into Geriatric Care: The Behavioral Philosophy of Yagya

Open access0 citations

Abstract

Modern healthcare often addresses aging and lifestyle disorders through purely external interventions, frequently overlooking the inner dimensions of human behavior and consciousness. This article explores the ancient Indian philosophical concept of Yagya as a multidimensional framework for holistic health and healthy aging. Beyond its traditional physical rituals, Yagyagni (the fire of Yagya) imparts profound behavioral teachings, such as diligent action, minimalist consumption, and altruistic distribution that directly counteract the lethargy and over-consumption driving cardiometabolic and psychological decline. By adopting these practical, psychological tools into daily routines, individuals can foster the behavioral shifts necessary for maintaining cognitive and physical vitality. Ultimately, integrating these philosophical interventions into routine patient care promotes a paradigm shift from technocratic disease management to the internal, ethical transformation of the individual.
