Decoding leadership behaviour insights from college teachers in Mizoram
Abstract
Teacher leadership behaviour as the ability to mobilize teachers’ available qualities to positively impact students in their everyday activities, both inside and outside the classroom. Teacher leaders are pivotal in facilitating innovative practices, which are essential for building an innovative economy. The aim of the present study to reveal a clear picture of the leadership behaviour of degree colleges teachers in Mizoram. A mixed mode approach was used to conduct the study. For the present study 250 teachers of degree colleges of Mizoram were selected randomly from40 colleges. The self-made Leadership Behaviour Description Scale (LBDS) was used for collection of quantitative data. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was also used to collect qualitative data from the respondents. The study revealed that the majority of the degree college teachers of Mizoram practiced consideration leadership behaviour, male teachers and government college teachers perceived that they practiced consideration leadership behaviour; meanwhile, female and science college teachers perceived that they practiced both of the leadership behaviour, i.e., initiation and consideration. Both government and private degree college teachers perceived that they practiced more on consideration leadership behaviour. This study paints a comprehensive picture of teacher leadership as a blend of interpersonal, professional, and visionary qualities. Effective teacher leaders are not only skilled educators but also mentors, collaborators, and innovators who inspire others to excel. These findings reinforce the importance of developing teacher leaders who can navigate complex educational landscapes while maintaining a focus on student achievement and professional growth.
