The complete chloroplast genome sequence and phylogenetic analysis of Murraya sumatrana Roxb. (Rutaceae)
Abstract
Abstract Objective Murraya sumatrana Roxb. (Rutaceae) is a shrub that is native to Bangladesh to Taiwan, and New Guinea, and is used mainly as ornamental trees in these regions. It has long been confused with orange jasmine, M. paniculata , and other species in the genus Murraya J.Koenig. In this study, we determined the complete chloroplast genome sequence of M. sumatrana Roxb. using next-generation sequencing and performed phylogenetic analyses to better understand the evolutionary relationships among the examined species. Result Phylogenetic analyses using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Inference confirm M. sumatrana as distinct from M. paniculata and other sequenced species in the genus Murraya , Merrillia Swingle, Bergera W.Schaffn., and Citrus L. These results provide a foundation for clarifying the phylogenetic position and evolutionary relationships of M. sumatrana within and among the genera Murraya , Merrillia , and Bergera , and for the development of genetic markers to assess interspecific and intraspecific variation.
