Abstract

FINDING: Quantum dimension in anyon fusion categories is linked to the golden ratio via pentagon equation solutions, which geometrically manifest in regular pentagon diagonal-to-side ratios. MATH: - Golden ratio φ = (1 + √5)/2 ≈ 1.618, with reciprocal φ⁻¹ = φ - 1 ≈ 0.618. - In a regular pentagon with side length 1, diagonal length = φ. - Pentagon equation (F-matrix consistency) in anyon fusion categories yields solutions where quantum dimensions d_i satisfy d_i² = 1 + φ (for Fibonacci anyons) or d_i = φ for the non-Abelian anyon type. - Key constants: 0.382 = φ⁻², 0.618 = φ⁻¹, 1.618 = φ, 2.618 = φ². CONNECTION: - Geometric harmony: The pentagon's diagonal/side ratio = φ, directly embedding the golden ratio in 5-fold symmetry. - Crystallographic symmetry: Pentagon relates to icosahedral (5-fold) symmetry, relevant to quasicrystals and root system H₄. - Base-60: Not directly present, but φ appears in Babylonian astronomy (pentagon cycles). - Lattice structures: Fibonacc Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
