Comparative Civilizational Viability Analysis: From Measurement Profiles to Interaction Patterns

Abstract

This article proposes a methodology for the comparative analysis of civilizational viability within the developing research program of Vitology. Building on the metrological framework developed in G27–G31, it introduces Comparative Civilizational Viability Analysis (CCVA) as a procedure for comparing the viability profiles of civilizational systems without reducing the analysis to a linear ranking of civilizations. The primary unit of comparison is not civilization as a normatively evaluated whole, but a comparable viability profile constructed from normalized indicators measured with reference to specified units of observation, temporal intervals, system levels, and empirical sources. The methodology distinguishes between absolute indicator values, relative differences, direction of change, profile stability, cross-level effects, and the consequences of interaction among systems. The article introduces the concepts of Comparative Viability Vector (CVV), Viability Profile Distance (VPD), Interaction Pattern Matrix (IPM), Dynamic Viability Trajectory (DVT), Comparative Asymmetry Index (CAI), and Viability Transformation Pattern (VTP). Particular attention is given to the principle of Non-Ranking Comparison: comparative analysis should not automatically be transformed into a universal scale of civilizational superiority. Different systems may exhibit different combinations of regenerative capacity, adaptability, autonomy, coordination efficiency, systemic costs, and cross-level coherence. The proposed methodology enables the investigation not only of the states of individual systems but also of reproducible consequences of their interaction, including constructive synergy, asymmetric cost transfer, mutual reinforcement, mutual depletion, and changes in viability across system levels. G32 therefore establishes a transition from viability measurement to comparative empirical analysis of civilizational interactions.
