Abstract

This article proposes a metrological research model of viability time for systems of different kinds. The starting point is the distinction between chronological time and the measurable dynamics of viability. Equal intervals of physical time do not necessarily correspond to equal changes in system state, recovery capacity, position relative to the viability boundary, or configuration of the space of future admissible states. The approach builds upon existing research on biological aging, Pace of Aging, resilience, recovery dynamics, critical slowing down, allostatic load, and recurrent disturbances without seeking to replace these concepts. The working concept of Viability Time is proposed as a derived metrological coordinate characterizing the accumulated dynamics of a predefined viability profile relative to chronological time. Chronological Time, Recovery Time, Boundary Recovery Time, Pace of Viability Change, and Viability-Time Accumulation are distinguished. An additional distinction is introduced between the availability of external resources and the system’s capacity to transform them into the preservation of viability. The article formulates the proposition that recovery of an observed state does not imply reversal of time and does not demonstrate complete restoration of the previous space of future viability. The proposed concepts have the status of testable metrological constructions and require subsequent mathematical formalization and cross-class experimental validation.
