A visual analysis tool for checking volleyball serve form
Abstract
Abstract This paper proposes a system that integrates a series of visualization components to observe the process of serve practice. This study supposes to ask the players to repeatedly hit the serve toward a target object, and the user of the system measures the distance between the drop point and the target object as well as the coordinates of the joints of the players’ body during the serve practice process. The proposed system first applies dimensionality reduction to the acquired coordinates and draws them as a scatterplot, and then visualizes the correlation between serving posture and accuracy by color-coding the points according to the accuracy of the serve. Another visualization component provides a 3D model visualization of the players’ body, a toss height visualization, and a joint trajectory drawing to check the improvement points of the serve in detail. From the results of the visualization system integrating these components, we could check the stability of the players’ serves, the differences in the moment of posture stability during the serve depending on the player, and the issues that each player faces.
