The Galliera Temperature Scale (°G): Definition and Specification
Abstract
This record presents Version 1.0 of the Galliera Temperature Scale (°G), a Celsius-derived temperature scale designed for intuitive, human-scale communication of everyday temperatures. It constitutes the original defining specification of the Galliera scale, established by Joseph Galliera on 18 August 2026. The Galliera scale is defined by the linear relationship T_G = 2T_C, where T_G is temperature in degrees Galliera and T_C is temperature in degrees Celsius. The scales share the same zero point, so 0 °G = 0 °C, and one Galliera degree represents 0.5 °C (0.5 K or 0.9 °F). Consequently, °F = 0.9 × °G + 32. Reference values include the freezing point of water at 0 °G, typical room temperature at approximately 40 °G, nominal human body temperature at approximately 74 °G, and the boiling point of water at standard atmospheric pressure at 200 °G. The scale was conceived to provide convenient whole-number values at common half-degree Celsius intervals. For example, 20.0, 20.5, 21.0, and 21.5 °C correspond to 40, 41, 42, and 43 °G. This changes the numerical representation of temperature rather than its physical precision. The Galliera scale is intended primarily for weather, indoor climate control, education, and other human-facing temperature communication.
