Abstract

The Macro-Architecture of the Qur’an is Volume II of The Qur’anic Coherence System and moves the inquiry from method to whole-book structure. Where Volume I asks how coherence claims should be defined and tested, Volume II asks what becomes visible when the received muṣḥaf is treated not merely as 114 neighboring chapters but as one ordered textual whole. The volume studies seven-group architecture, the logic of surah placement, transitions between major movements, hinge positions, and the relationship between the opening prayer of al-Fātiḥah and the final refuge of al-Nās. The adopted macro-framework stands in the modern Farāhī-Iṣlāḥī lineage and is presented as an analytical model rather than as a universally accepted partition of Qur’anic Studies. The official series record identifies al-Fātiḥah as the opening key; al-Baqarah through al-Nisāʾ as a major movement of community formation, law and social order; al-Māʾidah through al-Tawbah as a movement of completed legislation, accountability and covenant; Yūnus through al-Nūr as a large prophetic-historical movement; al-Furqān through al-Aḥzāb as a middle movement of criterion, character, household and community under pressure; and the final two movements, from Sabaʾ to al-Nās, as closing warnings, Makkan return, short-surah intensification and final refuge. The full volume is the place where boundaries and internal substructures are argued in detail. Macro-architecture is not inferred from theme labels alone. A grouping becomes significant only when several types of evidence converge: beginnings and endings, shifts in addressee, recurring vocabulary, narrative clusters, legal or theological burden, transitions, paired openings or closures, and the way one surah prepares, answers, contrasts with, or completes another. Placement logic is therefore treated as an explanatory hypothesis: it should clarify why a unit stands where it stands rather than simply rename the fact that it is there.
