Squadron Leader Shahzada Timur Shah Sadozai (1922–1952)

Abstract

This monograph provides an archival reconstruction of the military career of Squadron Leader Shahzada Timur Shah Sadozai (1922–1952), a pioneering officer of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). By integrating primary colonial records, hereditary genealogical data, and field-verified epigraphic evidence, this study maps the transition of a member of the Sadozai-Durrani royal lineage from the colonial Royal Indian Air Force (RIAF) into the early institutional framework of the Pakistan Air Force. The findings highlight the intersection between traditional royal-elite identity and the emerging requirements of a modern national military force, while addressing the historical erasure of mid-ranking officers from post-Partition institutional memory. The study incorporates previously unpublished archival records, genealogical documentation, family-held historical materials, and field-based epigraphic evidence that the author collected and verified. The research contributes to the historiography of the Pakistan Air Force and preserves the documented legacy of an understudied officer from Pakistan’s formative years.
