AlphaFold Hemoglobin Exercise

Abstract

<p>AlphaFold has fundamentally transformed biological science by enabling accurate prediction of protein structures and protein-ligand interactions. In this activity students compare the structures of native and mutant hemoglobin structures to discuss its impact on their functions. When the structure of a specific mutant of the protein <span style="font-size:11pt; font-variant:normal; white-space:pre-wrap"><span style="font-family:Arial,sans-serif"><span style="color:#000000"><span style="font-weight:400"><span style="font-style:normal"><span style="text-decoration:none">do not have experimentally determined structures</span></span></span></span></span></span> in the PDB, students can model it using AlphaFold and compare the structures. </p>
