Abstract
Holographic Information Ontological Framework: The Brain (HIOFtB) This is a four-paper series plus a short companion note. It is written for readers in neuroscience, consciousness studies, algebraic topology, and the philosophy of mind -- not as a finished theory, and not only for readers already inside the author's wider framework. The core idea, stated plainly Brain research has a huge store of facts and models, yet three problems remain hard to name clearly in existing vocabulary: how the brain keeps high-dimensional processing running at about 20 watts; why conscious experience is a stable, self-centred stream rather than something quickly dissolved by heat and entropy; and how creativity seems to generate genuinely new informational structure, not only recombination. HIOFtB does not claim to close these gaps. It offers a shared geometric-informational vocabulary so they can be placed in one coordinate system, then left for the reader to accept, revise, or reject. Why existing language is not enough Terms such as synaptic weight, firing rate, and network connectivity remain indispensable. They are also too coarse for the three blanks above. Memory often fails to vanish when one cortical patch is removed. Single-cell spikes are too noisy to be a plausible sole carrier. A 20-watt organ is hard to picture as a vast classical bit-erasure machine. The blockage is not only missing data. It is missing resolution in the language. A six-layer vocabulary L0 / L1. An untouched background versus a structured latent sea: high-dimensional, temporally unordered, non-local informational geometry that has not yet collapsed into the classical foreground. L2. Perception recast as orthogonal projection from high to low dimension, with a working hypothesis for cross-modal delay and the sense of time passing. L3. The classical foreground world: irreversible thermodynamics, decoherence, and topological defence -- structure that can survive local noise without surviving every possible shock. L4. Biological carrier layer. Published reconstructions of cortical microcircuits show directed simplicial complexes up to about six or seven dimensions, plus topological cavities. Information may live as much in relation and cavity as in the single cell. L5. Consciousness as a topological steady state; the self as an invariant; the unconscious as a dormant region of phase space, not a hidden warehouse. Schizophrenia, PTSD, and Alzheimer's disease are rewritten as geometric lesions: lock-in, jammed folding, and manifold rupture. These are working hypotheses, not diagnostic replacements. L6. Reasoning as geodesic flow on a semantic manifold; language as severe compression from a high-dimensional thought-space into a one-dimensional symbol string; creativity as critical activation of dormant informational units (informally, "dark code seeds") rather than creation from nothing. What the full series covers Paper I opens the three blanks and builds L0 through L3. Paper II asks what hardware could carry that language, and turns to simplicial complexes, Betti numbers, and connectome homology. Paper III relocates self, unconscious, and three clinical pictures inside the same geometry. Paper IV asks whether reasoning, language, and creation still fit, then stops at a formal sketch that is explicitly not a computable field equation. The companion paper records the writing rules the series actually uses. A note on method The series separates three registers: published empirical evidence, original theoretical proposals, and narrative or analogical exposition. Assertion strength is not allowed to exceed present evidence. Imagery may open a line of thought; it may not replace structure. Re-description of known facts is kept distinct from new claims. Readers are invited to treat theoretical proposals as open, rejectable distinctions -- not as settled mechanism.
