Literature And Environmental Consciousness: An Ecocritical Perspective

Abstract

Environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, and the loss of biodiversity have become some of the most serious challenges of the twenty-first century. These problems affect both human life and the natural environment, making environmental awareness and sustainable living more important than ever. Literature has always reflected the relationship between human beings and nature, presenting both the beauty of the natural world and the harmful effects of environmental destruction. Through poems, novels, plays, and essays, writers have encouraged readers to appreciate nature and recognize their responsibility toward protecting it. This research paper examines environmental consciousness in literature through the perspective of ecocriticism, a literary approach that studies the relationship between literature and the physical environment. The study concludes that literature plays a significant role in promoting environmental consciousness and fostering a sense of collective responsibility for preserving the natural world for future generations.
