The Zero-State Conjecture: A Note from an Amateur, Inviting Refutation (v6, Release)
Abstract
A deliberately informal, plain-language conjecture note (June 2026) proposing that the "nothing" the universe tends towards is zero distinguishability rather than zero energy, built on a featureless quantum substrate — together with two dated postscript sections reporting what happened when its questions were tested. Section 13 (July 2026) maps the note's open questions onto the outcomes of a formal, numerically tested constraint-map programme (the companion deposit "No Preferred Strain"): most candidate consequences were excluded; the endpoint question was answered by a working cosmologist (the de Sitter / cosmic no-hair attractor) and now sits in stated tension with the companion paper's surviving mechanism, which predicts no de Sitter future. Section 14 (August 2026) records three further mechanism-level intuitions and the established results that close each: an entanglement-mediated alternative to inflation (closed by the no-signalling theorem and, independently, the Kibble mechanism), a black-hole-graining alternative to metric expansion (closed by supernova time dilation, the CMB blackbody spectrum, and primordial black hole abundance limits), and one naming gain (Reeh–Schlieder as the correct anchor for "the zero-state is already entangled with itself"). Negative results are recorded with the same care as positive ones; refutation is invited.
