The Influence of Mental Health Literacy on Adolescents' Willingness to Seek Help
Abstract
AbstractThis behavioral science research study investigates the relationship between mental health literacy and teenagers' willingness to seek help for psychological distress. While mental health challenges among adolescents continue to rise, stigma and a lack of awareness often serve as critical barriers to formal care. This paper examines whether increasing a teenager's knowledge of mental health concepts positively influences their intentions to pursue professional or informal help. Utilizing an analytical research methodology evaluating peer perceptions and help-seeking barriers, the study highlights the ultimate impact of literacy on youth intervention strategies. The findings aim to provide actionable insights for high school counselors and educators looking to design better mental health support systems.
