Review of Autism Spectrum Disorder Treatments: Conventional and Ayurvedic Approaches
Abstract
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by daily challenges associated with social communication, repetitive motions and behaviors, and restricted interests. While cases are rising around the world, many families and healthcare providers have started to discover new methods. This paper presents two methods of treating patients: conventional methods and Ayurvedic treatments. The observations for this paper were collected during a research internship at the SDM College of Ayurveda and Hospital Center in Hassan, Karnataka, India. This paper examines how conventional treatments, such as behavioral, speech, and occupational therapies, alongside Ayurvedic methods such as herbal therapies, lifestyle interventions, and several other Panchakarma procedures, are used to treat ASD. This review indicates that both treatments aim to improve functional capabilities and quality of life for a patient. The review of treatments focuses on how conventional and Ayurvedic methods may promote a better quality of life for patients.
