FORMULATION AND EVALVATION OF FAST DISINTEGRATING LOSARTAN POTASSIUM TABLETS BY NATURAL EXCIPIENTS
Abstract
AbstractThe objective of the proposed research work is to prepare and evaluate the fast disintegratinglosartan potassium tablets by natural excipients, which avoids first pass metabolism, improvedthe dissolution rate and enhance the bioavailability. Losartan potassium isangiotensin receptorantagonist, used in the management of hypertension. Fast disintegrating tablets were prepared bydirect compression method by using different concentrations of superdisintegrants like guar gum,Hibiscus Rosa, gum karaya, chitosan, banana powder, and fenugreek mucilage evaluated forphysicochemical evaluation parameters such as hardness, friability, weight variation, and drugcontent uniformity, in-vitro dissolution studies, the six formulation, F1-F6 were formulated andamong these formulations F1, was optimized. The hardness, friability,weight variation and drugcontent uniformity were found to be within pharmacopeias limits. The in-vitro drug release fromformulation containing superdisintegrants fenugreek mucilage was found was found with85.62±0.26 to 96.74±0.86 in 10min and the maximum drug release was found with F1formulation. The disintegration studies shown all formulations disintegrated in less than 1min.the formulation F1shown less disintegration time of 17 seconds. The fenugreek mucilage andbanana powder shown more disintegration time than guar gum. An FTIR studies was performedand data revealed that no interactions takes place between the drug and polymersused theoptimized formulation. In conclusion, from the above study the formula used for F1formulationwas concluded as optimized formulation due to its less disintegration time and good % drugrelease when compared with other formulation.
